Ultimately, my Resume Builder resume wasn’t going to be effective because my LinkedIn profile didn’t give it the proper information to work with. My LinkedIn Summary section is far too long for a resume, and my Skills section is a proper mess: listing 50 skills on your resume – many of which are variations of one another for SEO benefits – is a sure-fire way to lose a recruiter’s attention. Over-Sharing.Įqually problematic is the inclusion of information most recruiters don’t need to see. These are things I’d want a hiring manager to know, but would not delve into on my LinkedIn profile. Helping another switch into a competitive industry. My Resume Builder resume neglects to include some of my proudest accomplishments, simply because they weren’t appropriate for public consumption. That’s a problem because looks matter: in a recent Forbes study, recruiters said professionally written resumes were 40% better organised and readable than those written by candidates.Īnd with recruiters spending less than 10 seconds before deciding to love you or leave you, you want to make sure you have every possible advantage. Formatting & Design.įor a self-proclaimed “beautiful resume,” my Resume Builder-created resume is pretty darn ugly. In a sea of problems, these are 3 most stand-out concerns: 1. I fed it my own LinkedIn profile and here’s what it spat out: ![]() Not satisfied to simply assume the Resume Builder is a waste of time, I took it for a test drive, using the tool to create my own “beautiful resume.” (By the way, to further improve your LinkedIn profile, check out my library of LinkedIn guides here). After all, if it lives up to its claim to instantly arm you with a stand-out, effective resume, all Australian resume companies could be in trouble.Īfter taking the LinkedIn Resume Builder for a test spin, it’s my opinion the tool doesn’t even come close to the needs of today’s job seekers – especially those at management and executive level. So when I heard about LinkedIn’s new Resume Builder tool, I couldn’t resist checking it out. Love it or loathe it, LinkedIn has been a key player in revolutionising the recruitment industry, and it’s always interesting to see what kinds of projects they have on the go. Part of that means keeping one eye fixed on LinkedIn Labs, the company’s innovation division. ![]() ![]() Social media, personal branding and recruitment technology are in a constant state of evolution, which means I must stay on top of trends and look out for the next big thing. I’ll be writing a comprehensive review of this product in the near future. The big news, however, is that Microsoft’s 2017 acquisition of LinkedIn has led to a new product – a LinkedIn-powered resume builder, that’s integrated into MS Office 365 Suite. The product was flawed and underwhelming (see my original article below, if you’re interested in the specifics of its shortfall). Update: In 2016, LinkedIn announced that it’s killing off the LinkedIn Resume Builder. ![]() Chaos sigil9/19/2023 ![]() ![]() In the words of Spare, there should be "a deliberate striving to forget it". Īfter charging the sigil, it is considered necessary to repress all memory of it. Using any of the gnostic techniques he reifies the sigil and then, by force of will, hurls it into his subconscious from where the sigil can begin to work unencumbered by desire. The magician acknowledges a desire, he lists the appropriate symbols and arranges them into an easily visualised glyph. The chaos magician then uses the gnostic state to "launch" or "charge" the sigil – essentially bypassing the conscious mind to implant the desire in the unconscious. In chaos magic, following Spare, sigils are commonly created in a well ordered fashion by writing an intention, then condensing the letters of the statement down to form a sort of monogram. In a very real sense, everything he created was an act of sorcery. The same techniques and consciously driven functional intention also permeated his paintings. He would reduce a name or an idea to a "glyph" and then write across the paper from right to left, turn the paper and do the same again, and so on, turning the paper around and around to create a multi-dimensional grid. It also influenced the artist Brion Gysin, who experimented with combining Spare's sigil method with the traditional form of magic squares:Ĭalligraphic magick squares were one of the techniques most commonly applied by Gysin. Spare's technique became a cornerstone of chaos magic (see next section). Spare did not agree with Medieval practice of using these, arguing that such supernatural beings were simply complexes in the unconscious, and could be actively created through the process of sigilization. The artist and occultist Austin Osman Spare (1886–1956) developed his own unique method of creating and using sigils, which has had a huge effect on modern occultism. ![]() The sigil was like a signature or sign of an occult entity. So far, The Family seems to be setting up another potentially obsession-worthy mystery series for fans of ABC’s other, similar dramas, but having only seen two episodes (and the second is a little too repetitive of the first), it’s hard to know how well it can hold on to that spark in the long run. It remains to be seen, though, if the other mysteries that replace it end up being as compelling, or if the show would have been better off just sticking to being a traditional family drama. It’s central to the show’s opening episodes, but it’s also a fixation that could end up leaving viewers more irritated than engaged if it’s dragged out for too long. But as unfolds quickly, Adam appears to be alive, and questions about why Hank confessed to a crime he didn’t commit, as well as the integrity of the original investigation (led by Margot Bingham’s Nina Meyer), and what kind of relationship Hank had with Adam in the first place, start piling up.Īt the TCA Winter Press Tour, journalists were assured that The Family plans to answer the question of Adam’s truth sooner than later (whether or not he is who he says he is), which is a good thing. ![]() Though the Warrens have all been deeply affected by what happened to Adam in their own unique ways, The Family also explores the plight of the Warren’s neighbor Hank ( Andrew McCarthy), a sex offender who spent a decade in jail for Adam’s murder. All have secrets, and by Episode 2, all are starting to reveal them and turn on one another (helped along, naturally, by a super-shady journalist, played by Floriana Lima). Adam’s older siblings Willa ( The Newsroom's Alison Pill) and Danny ( Friday Night Lights' Zach Gilford) are opposites of each other, with Willa as a mini-me of her mother - driven, even a little ruthless, a perfectionist - and Danny as a burnout who can’t get his life on track. Her husband, John ( Sherlock's charming Rupert Graves, with an unfortunately wavering accent here) meanwhile has a wandering eye, and has also made his name speaking on the grief counseling circuit. The Warrens are led by matriarch Claire ( Joan Allen, in her first broadcast appearance), an ambitious Republican politician who is looking to run for bigger things. (The primary question being whether he really is Adam). The show wants to have its cake and eat it too when it comes to these two dramatic events, so viewers are propelled back and forth through time to experience where the family was on the day Adam went missing (and the fallout from that), as well as the complicated emotions that go in to his return. The Family focuses on the Warrens, whose son Adam went missing when he was eight years old, before seemingly escaping and returning to them over a decade later. In this case, the murder didn’t happen - maybe - but there are many things that both set The Family apart from How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, Quantico, and also show how closely it plans to follow their formulas. That's shorthand for saying the new drama series is completely on-brand for ABC and its primetime focus of twisted dramas full of secrets, flashbacks, more secrets, and probably some murder. Dog lovers will be all over this movie, and as long as younger viewers can handle the intensity of the peril, families will enjoy it too.The most important thing to know about The Family is that it’s created by Jenna Bans, a former ShondaLand writer. But Alpha is ultimately all about Keda and Alpha. Jóhannesson, as the father, is also quite good. ![]() It's not a documentary it's a boy-and-his-dog survival adventure, and it's plenty involving on that score. That said, authenticity isn't the key here. You completely buy him speaking the film's invented language and enduring all the trials he faces with his wolf friend. Perhaps more importantly, so is his empathy - you sees how this particular Cro-Magnon teen might have mercy on a wounded predator, then be receptive to allying with it. As Keda, his courage and drive are entirely believable. And McPhee is a remarkably sympathetic actor. Albert Hughes, directing without his brother Allen for the first time, uses extensive CGI to create a prehistoric setting that's simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar, primal and fantastic. Alpha presents a plausible take on the origins of the human-canine bond - but more importantly, it's an absorbing survival tale with an appealing main character and a wolf that everyone will root for. ![]() This is a ripping good adventure yarn with memorable visuals and an original premise and feel. ![]() Machine expresso9/19/2023 ![]() ![]()
